Whilst Ed Clancy loved cycling from a young age, it wasn’t until he was 16 that he took it up professionally after being scouted by British Cycling.

Just a few years later, he won his first gold medal at the 2005 World Championship.

And the success and medals didn’t stop there. Since then, he has competed as a track and road endurance cyclist as an individual and as part of the GB Team Pursuit, winning an impressive four Olympic medals, twelve UCI Track Cycling World Championship medals, seven medals at the UEC European Track Championships, and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

More impressively, his third pursuit gold medal gained at the 2016 Rio Olympics came after a period of injuries and surgery on his back.

Ed Clancy – Cycling Ambassador

Whilst retiring from professional cycling, Ed Clancy is still very heavily involved with the world of the sport.

He has been an ambassador for the human performance specialists Pro-Noctis since 2017 and an ambassador for CAMS, specialising in helping cyclists involved in road traffic accidents.

He remains a consultant for British Cycling’s Research and Innovation Team and the British Triathlon Federation.

In early 2023, Ed took over from Dame Sarah Storey as the South Yorkshire Active Travel Commissioner, aiming to make South Yorkshire a safer place for people to cycle.

Ed Clancy – Entrepreneur

Ed Clancy is also an entrepreneur; in 2020 he launched the Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy with former teammate Graham Briggs, aiming to get children to learn to ride a bike.

Then in 2022, alongside long-term mentor Phil Kelly, he co-founded Pursuit Line.

Pursuit Line is a performance consultancy company aimed at building upon business and personal development.
