After studying history at the University of Southampton, John Inverdale completed a postgraduate journalism qualification at the Centre for Journalism Studies in Cardiff.

He began his professional career in 1980 as a reporter for the Lincolnshire Echo, gaining traditional newsroom experience in regional print media.

John Inverdale | Early BBC Career

In 1982, he joined BBC Radio Lincolnshire, marking his first step into broadcast journalism.

By 1985, his talents had been recognised by BBC Sport, and he made the transition to national broadcasting.

John became a presenter on BBC Radio 2 sports coverage, delivering reports and hosting segments across a range of sporting events.
