Former footballer Bryan Robson OBE started his playing career with West Brom in the 1970s, before a £1.5million move to Manchester United in 1981 where he would spend the next 13 years.
As captain of Manchester United, he led his team to Premier League titles in 1993 and 1994, won the FA cup three times in the 1980s, and collected European silverware in 1991 with the European Cup.
Also playing for England, he captained the Three Lions at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, and the 1988 European Championships.
He retired from playing in 1997 and moved into managing, becoming Middlesbrough’s player-manager in 1993, remaining in the Northeast until 2001. He has also managed Bradford City, West Brom, and Sheffield United. He now helps to enhance the welfare to active players, retired players, and their families. Using his wealth of experience, he is helping athletes to navigate their careers and encouraging them to be proactive in preparing themselves financially for the next chapter in their lives.

Bryan Robson OBE’s journey from his roots in Northlands, County Durham, to becoming one of England’s football legends is truly remarkable. He had an early passion for the sport as demonstrated when he played at school. He carried out trials with several prominent clubs as a teenager, and he officially became a professional footballer in 1974 with West Bromwich Albion.
He moved to Manchester United in 1981, for a then-British record transfer fee, which elevated his career to new heights. Over 13 seasons, he became the longest-serving captain in the club’s history, leading them to multiple Premier League titles, League Cups, FA Cups, FA Charity Shields, and a European Cup Winners’ Cup.
Alongside his club career, he began playing internationally in 1980, representing England at three World Cups and captaining the team. Despite battling injuries, he earned 90 caps for his country, scoring 26 goals.
He is often described by former teammates as a reliable source of support during triumph and challenge. Whether it was providing guidance to younger players, or simple being a friendly presence, Bryan believed in a sense of camaraderie that went beyond the game itself.

Transitioning from player to manager, Bryan started as a player-manager for Middlesbrough in 1994, before going on to manage Sheffield United, Bradford City, and Bromwich Albion. He notably guided Middlesbrough to promotion and led them to both domestic cup finals in the 1996-97 season. As a manager, he prioritised creating a family-like atmosphere within the teams he led, which helps enhance team cohesion and provided a nurturing environment where players felt valued as individuals as well as footballers.
