Originally from Oxford, Jim Rosenthal is one of the most recognisable figures in sports media, beginning his career in Birmingham on BBC local radio in the 1970s. he moved to London four years later to join the BBC Radio 2 Sports Department, fronting the nationwide Saturday output including the iconic Sports Report.

He moved to ITV in 1980, just in time for the Moscow Olympics. He also covered several FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships for the channel. He also anchored their rugby coverage, including the Rugby World Cup, notably presenting England’s iconic triumph in 2003.

He is also known for his enthusiasm for athletics, and presented ITV’s extensive athletics coverage for over 12 years, including the Olympics and European and World Championships. Jim was the face of boxing on ITV, covering numerous high-profile fights and developing close relationships with boxing legends and promoters.

He was the face of Formula One on ITV for a decade across more than 150 races. ITV pioneered a new style of presentation, covering the world to follow the action and providing an unprecedented level of engagement and expertise. Jim brought viewers closer to the action with live race coverage and interviews with top drivers and team members.

His clear, engaging style and breadth of knowledge across multiple sports made him a sought-after presenter and commentator, respected by audiences and athletes alike.

He became freelance in 2012 and extended his range of programming to include many other TV channels, including Amazon Prime (where he works as a Premier League football anchor), Channel 5, and Manchester United Television.

Beyond his work with sport, he has won many fans in the dog world for his commentary on Crufts and the popular events of Flyball and agility trials, showing his adaptability and quick-thinking broadcasting style.

Jim’s contributions to broadcasting have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Sports Journalists’ Association Award, two Royal Television Society Awards for Sports Broadcaster of the Year, and was part of the team that won a BAFTA for ITV’s coverage of the 2003 Rugby World Club.
