Jonathan Edwards CBE is widely regarded as one of the greatest triple jumpers in athletics history.

Best known for holding the world record in the men’s triple jump with a staggering 18.29 metres, a mark he set in 1995 and remains unbeaten, Jonathan’s career is a story of exceptional talent, determination, and resilience.

During his athletic career, he won Olympic gold in Sydney 2000, claimed two World Championship titles, and secured medals at the European and Commonwealth Games, earning him a place among Britain’s most decorated athletes. He was awarded a CBE in 2001, shortly after winning the Olympic gold medal.

Jonathan Edwards was born on 10 May 1966 in Westminster, London, and grew up in Devon, where he first discovered his athletic talent while attending West Buckland School.
He excelled in a range of sports from an early age and showed particular aptitude for jumping events.
After school, he studied physics at Durham University, balancing his academic pursuits with a growing commitment to athletics, laying the foundation for the following record-breaking career.

Since retiring from competitive sport in 2003, Jonathan Edwards has built a successful career in broadcasting and media.

He has worked extensively as a commentator and presenter for the BBC, covering major events including the Olympics, World Championships, and the Tour de France.

In 2017, Jonathan joined Eurosport under an exclusive deal, becoming their lead presenter for flagship sports programming, including the Olympics.

Edwards has since been a prominent figure in Eurosport’s coverage of major sporting events, particularly in cycling.

He has hosted live UK coverage of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, providing in-depth analysis and commentary.

He has also contributed to documentaries and sports features, bringing his expertise as a world-class athlete to audiences across television and digital platforms. 

On Channel 4, he presented the morning programme of the London Paralympic Games and hosted the inaugural Invictus Games for the BBC.
