More About

Mark Butcher first took to the professional cricket pitch in 1992, playing county cricket for Surrey. He played his first Test match for England in 1997, the start of a career that saw him play in 71 Tests and make eight centuries.

It is thanks to his father and coach Alan that he dominated the sport. When Mark found himself going through periods of failure, he would turn to his father, who would turn his form around, often becoming England’s go-to to help turn the game around in a crisis.

Unfortunately, due to a bout of injuries that he struggled to properly recover from, he announced his retirement in 2009.

Since retiring from active playing, he has become a prominent cricket commentator for Sky Sports, Star Sports, and ESPN. He has also appeared in the Sky Sports documentary You Guys Are History, which looked at the decline of black cricketers in England.
