Pat Nevin is a popular and highly respected broadcaster, speaker and former professional football with Chelsea, Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Clyde, Kilmarnock and Scotland.

He was CEO of Motherwell and was previously chairman of the Professional Footballers Association. He is also a DJ and author.

Born in Glasgow in 1963, Pat started his playing career with Clyde in 1981. Playing as a winger, he won the Scottish Second Division title with Clyde in 1982. In the same year, he won the UEFA European Under 18 Championship with Scotland in 1982 – and won the player of the tournament award. In 1983, he was part of the Scotland Under 20s team that reached the quarter-finals of the World Youth Championship.

Pat joined Chelsea in 1983 and was their player of the year twice. He won the Division 2 title and Full Members Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge. He was an FA Cup finalist and reached the Full Members Cup final while at Everton. After five years with Tranmere Rovers, Pat returned to Scotland and won the Ayrshire Cup with Kilmarnock in 1998. He won 28 caps for Scotland, scoring five goals. He was part of the Scotland side that finished as runners up in the Rous Cup in 1986 and 1989.

His individual honours as a player include the SPFA Second Division Player of the Year. He is in the Clyde Hall of Fame and the Tranmere Rovers Hall of Fame. Pat was PFA chairman from 1993 to 1997 and was CEO at Motherwell from 2000 to 2002 while he was still a player – earning him the tag as the world’s first ‘player-CEO’.

Since then Pat has been a DJ and has written three books:

– Football and How to Survive It (2023)

Now, Pat is a renowned broadcaster and analyst, working for the BBC – including Radio 5 Live and the BBC World Service. He is a regular contributor to Chelsea TV and Newstalk Radio in Ireland, and has worked with Sky Sports and Channel 4. Pat’s broadcasting career has spanned two decades. He specialises in match commentary and punditry. He has also appeared in documentaries, on podcasts, and enjoys covering music and the arts. He has an arts degree from Glasgow Caledonian University.
