Richard Gough

Footballer Richard Gough is quite simply a legend of Scottish football, having captained Rangers to nine successive Scottish top-flight titles in the 1990s. As a member of that all-conquering Ibrox side, he also picked up the Scottish Cup three times and League Cup six times.

His professional career started at Dundee United, where he also won a league title in 1983, and he played 61 times for Scotland, including in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups.

In 1999 he re-joined former manager Walter Smith at Everton, where he made 38 appearances before retiring in 2001.

More About

Richard Gough is one of the most decorated players to ever play in Scotland and is named in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. He also won the Cous Cup with Scotland and was internationally capped 61 times. He was first noticed by a range of top clubs in the successful Dundee United team of the early 1980s, where he won the Scottish league title and reached the European Cup semi-final, which was a huge achievement for the club. Whilst at Dundee he made an impressive 165 appearances, scoring 23 goals.

He went on to captain Tottenham Hotspur in the 1987 FA Cup Final, further cementing his position as one of the best players in Europe.

But it’s the time he spent at Rangers where he really got the chance to shine. He helped the team win a number of trophies and become one of the most feared teams in Europe, making nearly 300 appearances. After dominating Scottish football, he enjoyed spells in the US playing for San Jose Clash and Kansas City Wizards, before ending his career at Everton.

But the Rangers were never too far away, and he is now a global ambassador for the club.
