More About

Sir Jason Kenny grew up in Bolton and was a keen sportsperson during his youth.

He showed ability as a football goalkeeper and played cricket and tennis.

However, having learned to ride a bicycle at a young age, he became involved in track racing when he and his brother attended a track session booked by his uncle at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

Jason’s first track competition was when he competed in the Future Stars series, a junior competition held as part of the Revolution series at the Manchester Velodrome.

Sir Jason Kenny | The Start of an Olympic Career

After an impressive junior career marked by multiple World and European titles, Jason made a significant breakthrough in 2008 when he earned a spot on Team GB’s squad for the Beijing Olympics.

Partnering with experienced sprinters Jamie Staff and Chris Hoy in the Team Sprint, Jason tasted Olympic glory for the first time at just 20 years old, securing his maiden gold medal.

Stepping out from the immense shadow of Sir Chris Hoy – who beat him in the Individual Sprint final in Beijing to claim gold while Jason took silver – Jason’s talent and determination saw him selected over Hoy for the Individual Sprint at the London 2012 Olympics.

He validated that decision by clinching gold in front of a home crowd.

Jason also successfully defended his Olympic title in the Team Sprint alongside Chris Hoy and Philip Hindes, cementing his place as one of Britain’s most celebrated cyclists.

Jason put on another truly remarkable performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, taking three gold medals in the Team Sprint, Sprint and Keirin, in doing so, joining Sir Chris Hoy as the joint holder of the highest number of Olympic Gold medals for a British athlete.
