More About
Stan Collymore is a legendary former striker with Liverpool, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Southend United, Leicester City and England. His football career spanned from 1990 to 2001. He was the key man in what is still considered to be one of the greatest Premier League games of all time.
He scored two late goals, including a dramatic stoppage time winner, as Liverpool came from behind to beat title-chasing Newcastle United 4-3 – prompting iconic images including Collymore’s goal celebration and Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan slumped over advertising hoardings in despair.
Stan began his professional career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, before moving to Southend United, where he scored 18 goals in 33 appearances and helped the club avoid relegation. This earned him a high-profile move to Nottingham Forest in 1993 – and he scored 22 league goals in the 1994-95 season, securing the club a UEFA Cup place.
Holding the then British record fee of £8.5 million when moving to Liverpool in 1995, he formed a formidable striker partnership with Robbie Fowler, with the duo scoring 102 goals in two seasons. During this period, he was also capped three times for the senior England national football team.
In his final appearance for Liverpool in 1996, Stan started in the FA Cup final, but was substituted before Eric Cantona’s late winner for Manchester United. In 1997, Aston Villa bought Stan for £7 million, which at the time was a club record fee.
His time at Villa saw him experience both the highs and lows of professional football – and he has spoken openly about mental health and the realities of being a high-profile name in the spotlight.
He returned to his former club Southend as a football strategy consultant in 2021.
Drawing on his personal experiences, Stan is an inspiring speaker about a wide range of topics including performing under pressure, seeking and giving support, mindset, resilience, racism, multi culturalism and social issues.
